The Loafers were a prominent band in the British ska and 2-tone revival scene of the late 1980s. Formed in Newbury in 1986, the energetic outfit quickly made a name for themselves, famously serving as the backing band for ska pioneer Laurel Aitken and collaborating with John Bradbury, the iconic drummer of The Specials. Despite a brief, high-energy lifespan that ended with their split in 1990, they left a lasting mark on the genre with standout albums like City Skanking and Contagious, before its members moved on to form other influential projects and establish the renowned London International Ska Festival.
